Backup & cloud setup

A backup that runs by itself and that we've actually tested by restoring from it — plus email and cloud storage set up properly.

Nearly everyone we meet has something they’d call a backup. Far fewer have one that has ever been restored from, and those are two very different situations.

We’ll set up something that runs without you thinking about it — and then prove it works while you’re watching.

What's included

  • Automatic backup configured to an external drive, cloud storage, or both
  • A test restore, so you know it works before you need it to
  • Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace set up per account
  • Wi-Fi optimisation for homes where the backup keeps failing because the network drops

What's not included

  • Ongoing cloud storage subscription costs, which are paid directly to the provider
  • Server-grade backup infrastructure — for that, talk to us about business IT support

Common questions

I've got everything in OneDrive. Isn't that a backup?

Not quite. Sync services copy your changes — including the change where a file gets deleted or encrypted by ransomware. They're excellent for access across devices and only partly useful as a backup. The distinction matters most on the one day it matters at all.

How do I know the backup is working?

Because we restore from it in front of you before we leave. An untested backup is a hypothesis, not a backup.

What's the cheapest setup that actually works?

For most homes, an external drive doing an automatic weekly image plus cloud sync for documents and photos. That's roughly one hardware purchase and no ongoing cost beyond a few dollars a month of storage.
