Custom workstation build and migration

The problem

An ageing all-in-one that could no longer handle large design files. The client wanted more capability without paying for parts that wouldn't help their particular workload.

What we did

We specified and built a workstation weighted towards fast storage and memory rather than headline GPU numbers, then migrated the full user profile, licensed software and roughly 400GB of project archives.

The outcome

File open times on large documents dropped from minutes to seconds, and the client kept every project file, preset and password from the old machine.

Most of the value in a custom build is deciding what not to spend money on. This client’s bottleneck was storage throughput and memory, not graphics — so that’s where the budget went.

The migration mattered as much as the hardware. Four hundred gigabytes of archives moved across with the folder structure, licences and application settings intact, which is the difference between a new computer and a new computer you can actually start working on.

Not sure what's wrong? Neither were most of our customers.
